Description
Few shelters are as adaptable per gram as a good tarp. The Hawthorn is a 3 x 2.8 m (9 ft 10 in x 9 ft 2 in) catenary-cut tarp with 16 reinforced tie-outs, so it can be pitched as an A-frame, a lean-to, a half-pyramid or a low storm configuration that hugs the ground in wind.
Curved edges and ridgeline reduce flapping and help the fabric stay taut. The material is 20-denier silicone-coated ripstop nylon with a taped ridgeline seam. Two panel pull-outs lift the fabric off sleepers, and loops along the underside of the ridge hold a bug net or a drying line. It weighs 480 g (1 lb 1 oz) with 6 m (20 ft) of guyline pre-attached and packs into a stuff sack that clips to a hip belt.
