Light overnighters and shoulder-season day hikes, when the extra puffy and a stove have to come along, are what the Coldbrook 40 is designed for. A perimeter aluminum frame with a molded foam back panel carries up to 16 kg (35 lb), and pivoting hip belt wings move with your stride instead of rubbing at the hips.
The main bag loads through a roll-top closure with a side zipper for mid-pack access. Twin stretch side pockets are angled so a bottle can be pulled and replaced without taking the pack off, and the large front shove-it pocket drains through a mesh base. An internal sleeve holds a 3-liter reservoir. The 500-denier recycled nylon body resists abrasion from granite and bushwhacking, and the whole pack weighs 1.49 kg (3 lb 5 oz).
