Plenty of runs start on pavement and finish on a canal towpath or forest trail, and the Tarn is built for exactly that mix. Low 3 mm lugs are spaced closely enough to feel smooth on asphalt yet grip packed dirt and gravel, and the 32 mm heel stack (8 mm drop) is cushioned like a road trainer.

A breathable engineered mesh upper with light overlays, a padded collar and a plush tongue make it comfortable straight out of the box. The men’s last has a medium-width forefoot. It weighs 280 g (9.9 oz) in a men’s US 9. The outsole rubber is formulated to wear slowly on concrete, which also makes it a sensible choice for gym sessions and brisk walks.
