The Ptarmigan Mid takes the fast-and-light approach of our trail shoes and adds a mid-height collar and waterproofing. A waterproof, breathable membrane keeps feet dry on wet trails, and the lightweight ripstop upper ends in a stretch-knit ankle cuff that keeps out grit. Shown in stone white with a sage green ankle cuff and laces, a white midsole and a grey outsole.

It is built on a women’s last with a narrower heel and forefoot. A 30 mm heel stack with a 6 mm drop and a forefoot rock plate protect against sharp stones, while the 4.5 mm lugs grip mud and loose gravel. Each boot weighs 380 g (13.4 oz) in a women’s US 8, which makes it a good fit for hut-to-hut routes where every gram counts. Rinse off mud and dry away from direct heat to protect the membrane.
